Our B&B / chambres d'hote is situated high in the Saurat Valley in the Ariege Pyrenees. This area has recently been given the status of Natural Regional Park, a reflection of the richness of the flora and fauna, traditional buildings and landscape and its outstanding natural beauty. It is ideal for walking, climbing, cycling and wildlife watching, as well as many other mountain activities.
The valley has become forested in broad leaved trees, as well as planted conifers, since the demise of subsistence farming and terracing over the decades.
'Couchos' is the ancient local name for the land on which the house is situated. We have about five acres (1.75 hectares) of mixed pasture, woodland and garden set on the sunny south-facing side of the valley. This area is perfect for walks and picnics or just sitting admiring the views. Paths are mown through the wilder parts of the land so that you can stroll with ease among butterflies and flowers and admire the scenery.
In addition there is a heated swimming pool available from May to October, where guests can swim and relax.
There is a sheltered terrace at first floor level which looks towards the Eastern Pyrenees where guests can sit and relax and a lower terrace where barbecues can be arranged in the summer.
